Details: Copper Leaf, Acrylic, Gouache and Chalk on Clayboard
This painting was inspired by Martin Scorsese's recent movie, Silence as well as Makoto Fujimura's book, "Silence and Beauty".
The method used here is essentially using copper leaf as the foundation. Then using a product called, GAC-200 which helps with adhesion (acrylic and gouache will not adhere to the metal leaf) I ground chalk in a mortar and pestle. Once I had ground the chalk I mixed it into the GAC-200 and spread it across the canvas. This created various textures on the canvas. Then, a very slow layering of many different tones of blues, greens and blacks (over the course of many weeks) using both acrylic and gouache to arrive at the final state.
