When it comes to logo design I can't help but think of Paul Rand. While there have been Many great designers over the years I have benefitted immensely from his work and philosophy on design. While I admit, I am not sure all of his thoughts are entirely fair (I suppose this has to do with the fact that he lived in a world where he was able to tell people, "here is your design. Now pay me.") in terms of the kind of world us mortals actually live... it does seem true to me that he believed that good design, and this very much includes logos, is the synthesis or fusion of form and function. In other words, a good logo is equal parts beauty and use.
A logo must tell a story. A logo must also be beautiful. Below is a collection of logos I have designed over the past couple of years.
